For the first time in a quarter of a century. Chelsea concede five goals in a Champions League match
In the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, Chelsea travelled to face PSG away from home and suffered a 2–5 defeat, matching an unwanted record.
Details: According to Opta, this is only the second time in history that Chelsea have conceded five goals in a UEFA Champions League match. The last time it happened was more than a quarter of a century ago, when they lost 1–5 to Barcelona in April 2000.
The return leg of the Round of 16 will take place on Tuesday, March 17, at Stamford Bridge, kicking off at 21:00 CET.
Incidentally, despite the final scoreline of 5–2 in favour of the Parisians, the xG (expected goals) statistics show that the London side created far more dangerous chances, while PSG, surprisingly, did not even generate enough opportunities for a single expected goal.
Reminder: Young Brazilian Estevao joined Chelsea and quickly became an important player for the team, but he is currently sidelined. However, it has now been revealed when he could return.
