International footballer arrested in London on suspicion of assault
A 29-year-old international footballer was detained in central London on suspicion of two assaults and one count of affray. The incident took place overnight Saturday in the West End district.
Details: According to the BBC, police responded to a call at 00:47 on December 7 following reports of an assault. The victim was taken to hospital, but police confirmed that their injuries are not life-threatening. The footballer was arrested at the scene but was later released on bail. The investigation is ongoing.
The player's name has not been disclosed for legal reasons. In the UK, police rarely release the names of those arrested, following a practice established after the Leveson Inquiry in 2012.
Typically, a suspect's identity only becomes public if and when formal charges are filed.
Reminder: Barcelona have set their sights on Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
