Football without borders. Africa Cup of Nations trophy shown to inmates at Senegalese prison
The Africa Cup of Nations trophy continues its journey across Senegal, visiting the most unexpected places. One of the stops on its route was Rebeuss Prison in Dakar—the country's largest and most overcrowded correctional facility.
The inmates had the unique opportunity not just to see the continent’s most coveted football trophy, but also to touch it. The initiative, organized with the support of the Senegalese Football Federation, sparked a wide public reaction.
Social media was soon flooded with videos and photos from Rebeuss Prison: the footage shows the trophy being presented to the inmates, with some stretching their hands through the cell bars, eager to reach the cup.
As a reminder, in January, the Senegal national team claimed the Africa Cup of Nations, defeating Morocco 1-0 in the final. Following their triumphant victory, the trophy, presented to the "Lions of Teranga," embarked on a tour across the country as a symbol of national pride and unity.
