Following in the footsteps of Edouard Mendy, another Senegalese player is reportedly considering retiring from the national team

Having been omitted from Patrick Vieira’s first squad, Ismaïl Jakobs is said to have decided to end his international career with the Lions of Teranga.

The Galatasaray left-back is reportedly no longer keen to represent Senegal at international level. The 27-year-old is said to want to bring his career with the Lions of Teranga, which has seen him earn 33 caps, to a close.

However, as yet, neither Ismaïl Jakobs nor his entourage have confirmed this. However, this report, carried by the Senegalese press, comes after the 27-year-old left-back was not selected by Senegal’s new manager, Patrick Vieira, for the first two fixtures of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the international friendly against the Comoros.

Should the report be confirmed, Ismaïl Jakobs will no longer represent Senegal at international level. His decision would follow that of the Lions of Teranga’s iconic goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, who recently retired from international football.
