Fluminense Advance to Round of 16 as Renato Fulfills Club’s Three-Point Plan

Fluminense defeated Once Caldas 2-0 at the Maracanã to clinch top spot in Group F of the 2025 Copa Sudamericana. With 13 points, the Brazilian side secured a direct ticket to the Round of 16, while Once Caldas, second with 12, will face Bolivia’s San Antonio Bulo Bulo in the playoffs.
Speaking after the match, head coach Renato Gaúcho expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress and revealed the three goals set by club president Mário Bittencourt ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. According to Renato, he was tasked with qualifying in the Copa do Brasil, advancing in the Sudamericana, and keeping the team near the top of the Brazilian league. “Sorry, all three happened,” he noted proudly.
Fluminense’s final domestic match before traveling to the United States will be on Sunday against Internacional in Porto Alegre. The club now turns its focus to its most prestigious international challenge of the season.
