The acquisition of a new central midfielder remains an absolute priority for Barcelona this summer. The club is seeking a player who profiles similarly to Sergio Busquets.
According to El Nacional, the team's new head coach, Hansi Flick, has chosen a highly unexpected candidate for this role: Manchester United's young central midfielder, Kobbie Mainoo. The German coach has explicitly informed the club's management that he wants to build the team's play around the English midfielder.
However, Barcelona understands that due to financial constraints, they cannot afford a direct transfer for Mainoo. Therefore, the club is prepared to offer Manchester United €8.5 million plus winger Raphinha, who the Red Devils were interested in during his time at Leeds.
The 19-year-old Mainoo debuted for Manchester United in the recently concluded season. He played 24 matches in the Premier League, scoring 3 goals and providing 1 assist.
