Despite mistakes in matches against Benfica, Barcelona's head coach decided to start Wojciech Szczęsny in goal over Iñaki Peña yesterday. The German coach shared his reasoning behind the decision.
Details: According to Flick, the choice of the experienced Polish goalkeeper was based on Barcelona's consistent success with him between the posts.
"With Szczęsny, we’ve always won. I mentioned this before the game. Both he and Iñaki are excellent goalkeepers. We have to make these decisions as a staff," Flick said.
Flick also confirmed that Szczęsny would feature in the next few matches:
"I don’t know who will be the first-choice goalkeeper in the future. It depends on performances and the team’s needs. We felt we needed to make a change. I think Szczęsny will play in the upcoming games."
Reminder: Yesterday, Barcelona thrashed Valencia 7-1, surpassing 100 goals for the season.
