Star striker Gabriel Barbosa, also known as Gabigol, has been suspended from football for 2 years.

The Disciplinary Committee of the Brazilian Football Confederation has disqualified the player for attempting to tamper with a sample for an anti-doping test. However, there is currently no information available on the specific manner in which he attempted to deceive doping test officers.

The suspension will take effect from April 1.

Flamengo has officially stated that they will appeal the decision of the Brazilian Football Confederation. The duration of the appeal process is currently unknown.

Gabigol has been playing for Flamengo since January 2020, when he transferred from Inter Milan. In 261 matches for Flamengo, he has scored 143 goals. However, the previous Serie A season turned out to be quite unsuccessful for him, as he scored only 5 goals in 26 games.
