Flamengo Targeting James Rodríguez After León's Club World Cup Ouster
James Rodríguez might be on his way out of Mexico following León’s exclusion from the 2025 Club World Cup. According to Fichajes.net, Flamengo is aiming to sign the Colombian playmaker to boost their squad for the revamped tournament.
The Brazilian giants see an opportunity to secure a marquee signing at a reasonable cost, especially as León faces financial uncertainty without the Club World Cup revenue. James, under contract until December 2025, has delivered solid performances in Liga MX with two goals and five assists in eleven appearances, but may now consider a move.
Flamengo’s coach Filipe Luís wants to reinforce an already talented midfield featuring Nicolás De La Cruz, Gerson, and Giorgian De Arrascaeta. James would bring elite vision, experience, and playmaking skills to a team with serious continental and global ambitions.
Ironically, Flamengo and León were set to face each other in the group stage of the Club World Cup, alongside Chelsea and Espérance. With León now removed from the tournament due to FIFA sanctions over multi-club ownership, Flamengo is looking to take full advantage of the situation.
The coming weeks will be crucial as James weighs the chance to compete on the international stage in Brazil.
