Flamengo Signs Jorginho as Star Reinforcement for Club World Cup

Flamengo has completed a major signing ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, bringing in veteran midfielder Jorginho on a contract through 2028. As reported by Lance!, the Brazilian-born, Italy international arrives as a free agent after leaving Arsenal, waiving a portion of his owed bonus to facilitate the move.
The 33-year-old landed in Rio de Janeiro on Friday and was welcomed by fans at Galeão International Airport. After completing his medicals at Flamengo’s training complex, he was officially presented with the number 21 shirt. His net salary is expected to reach €13 million, making him the highest-paid player in the squad.
Jorginho never played professionally in Brazil, despite being born in Santa Catarina. He began his career at Hellas Verona, rose to prominence at Napoli, and later starred in the Premier League with Chelsea and Arsenal. He won the UEFA Euro 2020 with Italy, was named UEFA Men’s Player of the Year, and finished third in the 2021 Ballon d’Or voting.
Flamengo will kick off their Club World Cup campaign on June 16 against Tunisia’s Esperance, face Chelsea on June 20 in Philadelphia, and conclude the group stage against Los Angeles FC on June 24 in Orlando. The final tournament roster must be submitted by June 10.
