Flamengo Eyes Adrián Martínez, But Racing Says He’s Not for Sale
Flamengo has set its sights on Racing’s top scorer, Adrián "Maravilla" Martínez, as the Brazilian club prepares for the potential departure of striker Pedro. Looking to bolster its attack ahead of the Copa Libertadores Round of 16, Flamengo sees the Argentine forward as a strong option.
However, Racing has taken a firm stance: Martínez is not for sale. The club considers him “non-transferable,” and the 31-year-old striker reportedly wants to stay and fight for the Libertadores title. He’s under contract until the end of 2026, with a release clause set at $8 million.
Flamengo’s urgency stems from Pedro’s likely exit, with Monterrey showing interest in the Brazilian forward. Rayados currently own the rights to Nelson Deossa, another player on Flamengo’s radar. A swap deal is being speculated, but Flamengo’s board prefers to transfer Pedro abroad rather than within Latin America.
For now, Martínez remains committed to Racing, much to the relief of coach Gustavo Costas and fans hoping to keep their key attacking weapon for the crucial months ahead.
