Flamengo officially announced that Chilean midfielder Erick Pulgar will undergo foot surgery this Thursday, July 3, in Chile, after medical scans confirmed a fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot. The injury occurred in the same area where Pulgar had previously suffered a setback in 2023.

Following his return from the United States on Tuesday, the player underwent MRI and CT scans in Rio de Janeiro that confirmed the diagnosis. According to the club’s medical staff, surgery was deemed necessary, and Pulgar will begin his recovery process immediately after the procedure.

The expected recovery period is around two months, which means Pulgar will likely miss crucial matches, including the Copa do Brasil round of 16 against Atlético-MG and potentially the Copa Libertadores clash against Internacional in August.

The injury happened during Flamengo’s match against Bayern Munich, adding to the midfield concerns for coach Filipe Luís, especially as Gerson is also set to leave for Zenit.
