Five players from Iran women's national football team flee squad amid 'betrayal of the country' accusations

Details: According to DW Sports, five players from the Iran women's national football team defected after the Asian Cup match against the Philippines.
Reports indicate that after the players refused to sing the national anthem during Asian Cup matches, Iranian political leadership branded the women's team as "traitors" and vowed to punish them.

In response, the athletes sought political asylum from Australian authorities, after which they were escorted by Australian Federal Police to a secure location where they are now safe.
Media sources have identified the players who escaped the current Iranian regime as Fatemeh Pasandideh, Zahra Ghanbari, Zahra Sarbali, Atefeh Ramazanzadeh, and Mona Hamoudi.
The decisions and positions of the remaining members of the Iran squad are currently unknown.
