Following the latest Turkish Super League match, Fenerbahçe’s head coach José Mourinho made highly critical remarks about the match official, which did not go unnoticed by Turkey's football authorities.
Details: In a statement from the Turkish Football Federation, Mourinho’s words were deemed contrary to sportsmanship, ethics, and fair play principles. Additionally, they were considered damaging to the Federation's reputation. Mourinho was fined £20,178.
Moreover, the “Special One” received an additional fine of £1,500. He also faces a one-match suspension.
Background: After the game against Trabzonspor, Mourinho remarked that the best player on the pitch was Atilla Karaoğlan (the VAR official). He added that they were playing against "the system" that night, which he described as the most challenging opponent.
For context, Fenerbahçe defeated Trabzonspor 2-1, scoring the winning goal in the 90+12th minute. Mourinho was so overjoyed that he ran onto the pitch and even attempted a celebratory knee slide, though unsuccessfully.
