Birmingham’s Aston Villa are facing serious troubles off the pitch.

Details: According to Times Sport, Aston Villa is inevitably set to face sanctions after a repeat violation of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules. This marks the second consecutive year that Villa’s financial figures have failed to meet the stringent regulations of European football. The club is now threatened with a substantial monetary fine.

The main reason for the deficit is the team’s failure to qualify for the Champions League—revenue that the management was counting on turned out to be significantly lower than expected due to the absence of bonuses from Europe’s most prestigious tournament.

The situation is forcing the club’s management to look for ways to optimize spending. To comply with the limits in the future, Aston Villa may be required to sell one or more key players in the upcoming transfer window to balance the books and avoid harsher penalties, such as exclusion from European competitions.

Reminder: Former Aston Villa player James Milner has matched the all-time Premier League appearance record.
