Finally! Manchester United identify potential replacement for Carrick
Manchester United appear to be preparing for life after Michael Carrick.
Details: According to renowned journalist Ben Jacobs, Manchester United have sounded out Julian Nagelsmann as a potential replacement for Michael Carrick. The former Bayern Munich and Germany national team manager has admirers within the club's hierarchy and is currently available as a free agent.
The 39-year-old German specialist is reportedly viewed as an attractive option by senior figures at Old Trafford. Nagelsmann was already considered for the position before Carrick received a permanent appointment in May, but United could now revisit his candidacy.
The news comes amid a disastrous run of results for Manchester United. On October 21, the Red Devils suffered a humiliating 4-1 Champions League defeat against Como, extending their winless streak across all competitions to seven matches.
However, Nagelsmann's appointment is far from confirmed, and Carrick remains in charge. The English manager faces another crucial test on October 25, when Manchester United host Bournemouth in the Premier League.
It's worth noting that Nagelsmann stepped down as Germany's national team coach on July 3, 2026, following the country's World Cup elimination. Jürgen Klopp officially succeeded him on August 15.
