Finalists for the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup have been announced

Yesterday marked the semi-final matches of the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup. The clashes featured the national teams of Italy against Slovenia, and Canada against the Czech Republic.

Italy's team confidently defeated their Slovenian opponents with a 2-0 victory. The Italian team sealed the win in the singles matches. Martina Trevisan triumphed over Kaja Juvan with a score of 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, while Jasmine Paolini emerged victorious against Tamara Zidansek with a score of 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

In the second match, the Czech Republic was considered the favorite, but Canada managed to snatch a 2-1 victory. The outcome was decided in the doubles match.

Barbora Krejcikova secured a win over Marina Stakusic in the singles matches with a score of 6-2, 6-1, while Leylah Fernandez brought suspense back by winning against Marketa Vondrousova with a score of 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

In the doubles, Gabriela Dabrowski and Leylah Fernandez sensationally defeated the top Czech duo of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova with a score of 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).

Canada advanced to the semi-finals from Group C, surpassing Spain and Poland, while Italy won Group D, leaving behind opponents from France and Germany. Last year's tournament champion, Switzerland, was in Group A with the Czech Republic and the USA, but finished at the bottom.

The 2023 Billie Jean King Cup final will take place today, starting at 15:00 Central European Time.
