On Saturday, July 27, the final match of the Olympic Rugby Sevens tournament took place. The French national team faced Fiji.

Fiji is one of the top teams in modern Rugby Sevens. This sport was introduced into the Olympic program in 2016, with Fiji winning both the 2016 and 2020 tournaments. They had never lost a match at the Olympic Games.

However, this time their streak ended. They reached the final, where they played against the hosts, France. The match was relatively straightforward for the French. The first half ended in a 7-7 draw. But in the second half, France dominated, defeating their opponents 21-0.

As a result, France won 28-7. This marks Fiji's first defeat in Olympic history.
