The rules for this award are based on voting by four equal groups (national team captains, national team coaches, media, and fans), with each group selecting their top three choices.

Today, the choices of 38-year-old Inter Miami and Argentina national team captain Lionel Messi were made public.

Leo Messi's votes for the FIFA The Best award:

Best player of the year:

• 1. Ousmane Dembélé.
• 2. Kylian Mbappé.
• 3. Lamine Yamal.

Best coach of the year:

• 1. Luis Enrique.
• 2. Hansi Flick.
• 3. Mikel Arteta.

Best goalkeeper of the year:

• 1. Gianluigi Donnarumma.
• 2. Emiliano Martínez.
• 3. Thibaut Courtois.

In fact, Messi anticipated the winners, as all those he placed first in their categories ended up taking home the award.
