Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche has been left stranded by FIFA’s strict regulations, ending any hope of a January move and putting his AFCON 2025 prospects under threat.

According to The Athletic, Uche cannot leave Crystal Palace mid-season because of FIFA’s two-club rule, which allows a player to be registered with three teams but limits him to playing official matches for only two. He has already hit that limit—first appearing for Getafe, where he recorded a goal and an assist in three La Liga games, before joining Crystal Palace in the summer.

Things have not gone smoothly in England. Under Oliver Glasner, Uche has featured just seven times across all competitions for a total of 67 minutes, raising concerns about his match sharpness. Interest from Bundesliga clubs created hope for a loan move, but FIFA rules have “shut the door,” leaving him stuck at Selhurst Park until the end of the season.

Uche arrived in England after a strong campaign at Getafe, where he produced four goals and six assists in 38 league matches. Now, with AFCON 2025 approaching, he will be hoping for more playing time to stay in contention for a Super Eagles call-up. A recall is only possible if a break clause exists, but unless triggered, he remains bound by FIFA’s regulations.
