FIFA creates another tournament for top clubs

The FIFA Intercontinental Cup is an annual competition contested among the winners of international tournaments from each federation, as announced on the organization's official page.

The tournament comprises several stages. In the first round of Stage A, the winner of the AFC Champions League or the CAF Champions League will face the winner of the OFC Champions League at their home stadium. In the next round, the victor of this combination will compete against the remaining representatives from the AFC or CAF, with the participation order of African and Asian teams determined by an annual draw.

In Stage B, the winners of the CONCACAF Champions League and the Copa Libertadores will face each other, with the host team decided by a draw. After this, hosting rights will rotate between federations each year.

The final stage of the tournament will take place on neutral ground. The winner of Stages A and B will compete in the final against the winner of the UEFA Champions League. The play-offs will occur on December 14, 2024, with the final match on December 18, 2024.

FIFA has also announced the candidates for the Men's and Women's Player of the Year. Among the male nominees are Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Erling Haaland. The best footballers of 2023 will be determined by national team head coaches and captains, as well as journalists and fans who vote on the FIFA website.
