FIFA Launches First Talent Academy in CONCACAF With Guatemala as Pioneer
FIFA has officially launched its first Talent Academy in the Concacaf region, choosing Guatemala as the host nation, according to ESPN. This marks only the third such academy worldwide, with the goal of nurturing young footballers through high-level training, education, and a sustainable development plan.
The launch event was attended by Fedefut president Gerardo Paiz, FIFA’s Director of Global Football Development Steven Martens, FIFA Talent Coach Vicent Benlloch, and Fedefut’s Technical Development Director Eduardo Estrada. FIFA President Gianni Infantino joined via video with a congratulatory message.
"It is an honor for Guatemala to be one of only three countries selected. This project provides a strong foundation, and I hope it will help our youth lead us to a World Cup someday," Paiz stated.
The FIFA Talent Academy in Guatemala aims to become a benchmark for other federations by focusing on elite player development, operational excellence, and community impact. Martens highlighted that Guatemala was among the first to embrace the initiative, launched under Arsène Wenger’s leadership.
Following the ceremony, officials unveiled the FIFA Talent Academy Guatemala plaque and posed for an official photo at the National Football Federation headquarters. The academy will work in tandem with Guatemala’s existing High Performance Center, also funded through FIFA’s Forward program.
