After Argentina's national team victory in the Copa America, the players became embroiled in a racist scandal.
The Albiceleste players sang a song about the French national team and Kylian Mbappé. The leadership of Les Bleus approached FIFA to address the matter. According to the French Football Federation, FIFA has indeed initiated an investigation into the incident.
"FIFA is aware of the video circulating on social media, and the incident is under review. FIFA firmly condemns any form of discrimination by anyone, including players, fans, and officials," said a spokesperson for the international governing body.
The video clearly featured a melody sung by Argentine fans at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The lyrics of the song included:
"They play for France, but they all come from Angola! They sleep with trans people, like gay Mbappé. Their mom is from Nigeria, and their dad is from Cameroon. But their passport says they're French."
Additionally, this situation has affected Chelsea. The club has begun an internal investigation as one of the participants, midfielder Enzo Fernández, is implicated in the scandal.
