The International Football Players' Union (FIFPRO) together with the association of European leagues filed a complaint against FIFA with the European Commission.

According to the official website of FIFPRO, the reason for the complaint is the lack of inclusion of national leagues and footballers' union by FIFA in the process of approving the international calendar.

It is noted that these FIFA decisions violate European Union legislation and, among other things, are an abuse of the body's dominant position in football.

This, in turn, creates a conflict of interest which, according to the recent jurisprudence of the EU courts, obliges FIFA to fulfil its functions in a transparent, objective, non-discriminatory and proportionate manner.

The behaviour of the world football body in relation to the international calendar, as emphasised in the statement, does not meet these requirements.

It is emphasised that the football unions of England, France and Italy in June filed a separate lawsuit in the commercial court of Brussels, but the complaint to the European Commission will go in parallel with this process.

Recall, earlier Spanish and English clubs announced their intentions to boycott the reformed club World Cup because of the overstretched club calendar.
