The 2026 World Cup is set to take place in the summer of 2026, but questions are already being raised about whether all qualified teams will participate. FIFA, however, already has a plan in place for such a scenario.
Details: According to Football Italia, the governing body will replace any national team that withdraws from the World Cup. Therefore, even if Iran ultimately refuses to travel to the United States, the most likely replacement would still come from Asia.
It was also reported that thousands of fans who managed to purchase tickets for the tournament’s biggest matches are alleging large-scale fraud by the organisers. Buyers insist that the international federation misled them regarding seat locations in the stadiums.
Reminder: The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be historic, featuring 48 teams for the first time, but it appears the changes may not stop there. The number of participating teams could increase even further in the near future.
