The International Federation of Football (FIFA) has revealed Al Ahly’s final squad for the 2024 Intercontinental Cup semifinal, scheduled to take place in Qatar this month. The Egyptian side will face the winner of the South American and North American champions clash.
Interestingly, FIFA’s squad list features 26 players, two fewer than the 28-man group initially announced by Al Ahly upon their departure to Qatar. The young duo of Samir Mohamed and Mostafa Abu El-Kheir traveled with the team but were excluded from FIFA’s official list. This inclusion may have been a morale-boosting decision by head coach Marcel Koller.
Swiss coach Koller also called up young goalkeeper Mostafa Makhlouf to replace injured Mustafa Ahmed Shobeir. Veteran Egyptian international Mohamed El-Shenawy is expected to start in goal, with Egypt’s Olympic goalkeeper Hamza Alaa serving as his backup.
Al Ahly Squad for the Intercontinental Cup:
Goalkeepers: Mohamed El-Shenawy, Hamza Alaa, Mostafa Makhlouf.
Defenders: Rami Rabia, Yasser Ibrahim, Achraf Dari, Youssef Ayman Hafez, Khaled Abdel-Fattah, Akram Tawfik, Yahia Attiyat Allah, Karim El-Dibis, Omar Kamal Abdel-Wahed.
Midfielders: Marwan Attia, Karim “Nedved” Walid, Amr El-Sulaya, Omar El-Saie, Mostafa Abu El-Kheir, Ahmed Nabil “Kouka,” Emam Ashour, Mohamed Magdy “Afsha.”
Forwards: Hussein El-Shahat, Taher Mohamed Taher, Percy Tau, Reda Slim, Wissam Abu Ali, Mahmoud Kahraba, Mohamed Abdallah Ali.
Al Ahly aims to put on a strong performance as they seek a spot in the tournament’s final against European champions Real Madrid.
