Ferland Mendy's injury revealed
In the second leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, Real Madrid managed to advance past Atletico Madrid in a penalty shootout, but not all news was positive for the "Royal Club".
Near the end of regulation time, full-back Ferland Mendy sustained an injury and was unable to continue the match. After the game, Real's head coach Carlo Ancelotti reported that the Frenchman felt muscle discomfort. On Thursday, March 13, he will undergo a medical examination to determine the extent of the injury.
Notably, this victory marked the fourth time the Madrid club has won a penalty shootout in the history of the UEFA Champions Cup/Champions League. They have etched their name in the competition's history.
It was previously reported that one of the most controversial moments of the match was the disallowed Alvarez shot in the penalty shootout.
However, replays, photos, and freeze frames do not provide a definitive answer as to whether Alvarez touched the ball twice. From the angles shown in the broadcast, the contact of the Argentine's supporting foot with the ball is not visible.
