"Feeling some relief": Slot and Amorim react to a fiery match at Anfield
In the marquee clash of Premier League matchweek 20, Liverpool hosted Manchester United at Anfield. The teams delivered a spectacular showdown, ending in a thrilling 2-2 draw.
After the match, Manchester United’s head coach, Rúben Amorim, expressed satisfaction with his team's performance.
"It should be a significant concern for our players if even one person believes we have talent but lack character. We must fight against that perception.
I think it's very clear. When we are focused, when we fight for every ball, when we suffer and feel exhausted by the end of the match, we are an effective team. If we don’t do this consistently, we will lose games. That’s clear to everyone.
We controlled the tempo of the game very well. Every time Liverpool had a chance, we managed to maintain possession for a while. That matters. It was a good game."
As for Liverpool's manager, Arne Slot, he believes the Reds could have secured a win if they had capitalized on all their chances.
"They had a big opportunity at the very end, so we feel some relief as well. But in my view, that’s not the whole story of the game — we created far more chances than they did. A point is something you take, but when I reflect tomorrow, I’ll probably hope for more.
If you look at the game, we had three dangerous chances in the opening 20 minutes. We’re playing against quality players, and this was an opportunity for them to prove themselves against us, more so than in other matches — to compete against the league’s best.
We weren’t surprised by anything the opponents did; they’ve played in this style for a few weeks. Perhaps the only slight difference was that they mostly hit long balls."
Despite the draw, Slot’s team solidified their position at the top of the Premier League table. Meanwhile, Amorim’s side, winless in their last five games, climbed to 13th in the standings.
