The decision was made public on Monday, 26 January 2026. In a statement published on its social media accounts, the Cameroon Football Federation justified the suspension of the four referees following ‘questionable’ decisions made during the match between Victoria United and Bamenda at the Centenary Stadium in Limbe in the first round of the 2025-26 Elite One season.
"The Cameroon Football Federation informs the national and international community that following the match on the first day of the 2025-2026 MTN Elite One Championship, Victoria United vs PWD Bamenda, played on Sunday 25 January 2026 at the Centenary Stadium in Limbe and marred by clearly questionable refereeing decisions, the refereeing quartet and the referee inspector who officiated at the match have been provisionally suspended from all activities pending the conclusion of the disciplinary proceedings currently underway."
In addition to suspending the four referees, the Federation announced that it had opened an investigation into the Dynamo vs. AS Fortuna match, also played on Sunday. The investigation concerns suspicions of match-fixing.
‘Furthermore, FECAFOOT has announced that it has launched an administrative investigation into the Dynamo de Douala vs AS Fortuna match, played on the same day, in light of serious suspicions of match-fixing. The relevant commission has been instructed to shed light on this match and, if necessary, propose appropriate sanctions in accordance with the regulations in force.’
