Farewell Hug Signals Jorge Almirón’s Imminent Exit from Colo Colo
Jorge Almirón is expected to coach his final match for Colo Colo this Thursday in the Copa Libertadores clash against Atlético Bucaramanga. Although no official statement has been made, multiple reports and visual cues suggest his departure is all but confirmed. As reported by TNT Sports, the match—set to be played behind closed doors due to a stadium sanction—will likely mark the end of his tenure.
Almirón’s relationship with Colo Colo’s board, led by Blanco y Negro, has deteriorated after a disappointing domestic campaign. Despite a recent 4-0 win over Unión Española, club president Aníbal Mosa has reportedly communicated internally that the coach’s cycle is over.
During Saturday’s game, Almirón shared an emotional group hug with his players on the field, a gesture interpreted by many as a farewell. Former club captain Gonzalo Fierro, now a TV pundit, commented: “He won’t stay. That hug was a clear sign—I've been there myself. He’s gone by the end of the week.”
Almirón’s exit leaves Colo Colo needing to regroup quickly for the second half of the season, still chasing a shot at local redemption and international qualification for 2026.
