Tomorrow, August 16th, the new Premier League season kicks off with a match between Manchester United and Fulham at Old Trafford. Along with the start of the season, the official Fantasy Premier League (FPL) tournament will also begin.

Fantasy Premier League is a popular game played by both professional footballers and celebrities. For instance, chess world champion Magnus Carlsen is an avid player, and he even won the FPL championship in the 2022/23 season.

The objective of the game is to assemble a squad of 15 players with a budget of £100 million: 2 goalkeepers, 5 defenders, 5 midfielders, and 3 forwards. Each game week, your selected players earn points based on their real-life performances. Defenders and goalkeepers also earn points for clean sheets.

Before each game week, participants can make 1 free transfer. Any additional transfers will cost 4 points each.

Players can also select a captain for each game week. The captain's points are doubled.

Throughout the season, each FPL manager can use three special chips:

  1. Bench Boost: All players on your bench earn points for that game week.
  2. Triple Captain: Your captain's points are tripled instead of doubled.
  3. Mystery Chip: A secret chip that will be revealed in January 2025

In previous seasons, the third chip was usually the Free Hit, which allowed players to completely revamp their team for one game week.

For the new season, the most expensive player in the game is Premier League top scorer Erling Haaland, priced at £15 million. Mohamed Salah is the second most expensive at £12.5 million. Meanwhile, Chelsea's rising star Cole Palmer is priced at £10.5 million.
