The 23rd of 24 Championship team Sheffield Wednesday wanted to sign the ex-Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schulz, but the transfer will not be destined to happen.

Sky Sports quoted club boss Danny Role as saying that the club refused to sign Schultz, who trained with the Owls last month, amid fan outrage.

In February, the 30-year-old German stood trial on charges of three assaults on his former partner in 2020. Schultz was ordered to donate more than £128,000 to five different charities over a three-month period.

This was needed to close the case after his former partner reportedly refused to give evidence.

It is worth recalling that the former Germany defender has been without a club since leaving Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2023.
