Fan who died during Bayern match was a football coach
The fan who tragically passed away during Bayern Munich's Champions League match against Lisbon's Benfica was revealed to be Romain Jean, a former coach of the Luxembourg women's national football team, according to Bild.
The man suffered a heart attack shortly before the match began. For half an hour, emergency medical personnel tried to resuscitate him on the stands. He was then rushed to Munich's cardiology center, but tragically passed away on the way to the hospital.
"About an hour after the game, the club received the sad news that the fan had passed away on the way to the hospital. Bayern FC mourns together with his family," said Bayern Munich's official website.
Out of respect for the tragic event, the fan section of the stadium remained silent throughout the match, refraining from their usual loud support for the team.
Bayern won the match 1-0, with the only goal scored by Jamal Musiala. Following this victory, the German side moved up to 17th place in the overall Champions League standings, overtaking Benfica, who are now in 19th place.
