Falconets Crush Benin 3–0 to Stay Top of WAFU B U20 Girls Cup
Nigeria’s Falconets delivered another commanding performance on Sunday morning, cruising to a 3–0 win over hosts Benin Republic at the Stade Omnisports d’Adjohoun to strengthen their grip on the 2025 WAFU B U20 Girls Cup.
Barely a day after beating defending champions Ghana 3–1, the Falconets showed no fatigue as they outclassed a spirited Benin side in front of their home fans. The Nigerian girls were calm, composed, and dominant throughout the encounter.
Star forward Kareem Ramotalahi was the standout performer, scoring twice before Precious Oscar added a late third in stoppage time. The victory keeps Nigeria perfect with six points from two games, ahead of Ghana on three, while Benin remain without a point after two defeats.
Despite Benin’s early pressure, Nigeria quickly took control of the match. Ramotalahi opened the scoring in the 15th minute, gliding past her marker before lifting a delightful shot over the goalkeeper into the top corner.
Benin continued to fight but couldn’t match Nigeria’s pace and tactical discipline. On the hour mark, Ramotalahi doubled the lead with a fine solo run down the right before slotting home coolly.
The hosts’ hopes of a comeback faded as Nigeria controlled possession and dictated play. In added time, Oscar wrapped up the win with a crisp finish after Benin failed to clear a corner.
With back-to-back victories over Ghana and Benin, Moses Aduku’s side have emerged clear favourites to win their first WAFU B U20 title. The Falconets will next face Ghana on Tuesday before finishing the group stage against Benin on Wednesday.
