Fans planning to attend World Cup matches in New York and New Jersey have been hit with an unpleasant financial surprise.

Details: According to a report by The Athletic, NJ Transit is set to hike the price of train tickets from Penn Station to MetLife Stadium to a staggering $100 (round trip). On regular days, this 18-mile journey costs passengers just $12.90, meaning the price will soar nearly eightfold during the tournament.

New Jersey authorities explain this measure as a necessity to cover the enormous costs of security and logistics. State Governor Mikie Sherrill stated that servicing the eight championship matches (including the final on July 19) will cost about $48 million, and this burden should not fall on local taxpayers.

As a result, the bill for transportation services will be passed on to tourists and fans. The situation is further complicated by the fact that during matches, stadium parking will be almost unavailable, while private parking nearby could soar to $225.

A similar situation is unfolding in Boston, where the cost of traveling to Gillette Stadium during the World Cup will rise from $20 to $80.

Reminder: FIFA president Gianni Infantino has lost trust due to US President Donald Trump.
