Goalkeeper Emil Audero, although born in Indonesia, has spent his entire professional career in Italy. Realizing that breaking into the senior 'Squadra Azzurra' squad was unlikely, he turned his attention back to his homeland.
Details: In February, Audero announced his decision to represent Indonesia at the international level, and by June, he had already made his debut, starting in the World Cup qualifier against China. Audero received his first call-up back in March, but remained on the bench for matches against Bahrain and Australia.
Reminder: Indonesia lost its chances to progress to the third round of World Cup qualification two matchdays before the end. However, if they manage to defeat China, they will secure a spot in the fourth round alongside Saudi Arabia.
Previously, Audero came through the entire youth system of the Italian national teams, but never made an appearance for the senior squad. At club level, he currently plays for Como, though he spent the second half of last season at Palermo. From 2016 to 2019, he was with Juventus, and in the 2023/2024 season he represented Inter Milan.
