Ex-Brighton player Jake Robinson to become a train driver after retiring from football
Former Brighton & Hove Albion forward Jake Robinson has decided to pursue a career as a train driver after hanging up his boots, he revealed in an interview with BBC Radio Sussex.
Robinson is currently training as a locomotive driver, learning the ins and outs of operating a train. The idea came from his father, who spotted a job opening at Southern Railway and encouraged him to apply.
The 38-year-old is a product of Brighton’s academy and made 144 appearances for the Seagulls. He still holds the record as the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer, having found the net in the 2004/05 Championship season at just 16 years old. In total, he scored 20 goals for Brighton.
After leaving Brighton, Robinson played for Shrewsbury, Torquay, and Northampton, among others. His final club was Worthing, where he retired at the end of last season.
"I'm very proud of my career, I wouldn't change it for the world. All I ever wanted to do was be a professional footballer, I'm lucky I lived out that dream," Robinson shared.
