Exactly ten years ago, on July 8, 2014, one of the most incredible matches in football history took place. In the semi-finals of the World Cup, Brazil faced Germany.

Brazil, the hosts of the tournament, suffered a devastating defeat that day. Thomas Müller opened the scoring for Germany in the 11th minute. Then, from the 23rd to the 29th minute, Germany scored four goals. Miroslav Klose, Toni Kroos (twice), and Sami Khedira were the scorers.

After halftime, Andre Schürrle scored a brace for Germany. Brazil managed to score a consolation goal in the 90th minute through Oscar. The match ended with a scoreline of 7-1 in favor of Germany.

This match became the highest-scoring semi-final in FIFA World Cup history (8 goals). Germany surpassed Brazil in total goals scored in World Cup history — 223 to 221 — and became the first country to reach the final eight times in the World Cup. Brazil not only suffered their biggest defeat in World Cup history but also in the history of their national team.

In that game, Miroslav Klose rewrote World Cup history by scoring his 16th career goal in World Cup tournaments, surpassing Ronaldo to become the all-time leading scorer in World Cup history.
