"Everything hinges on him," Joshua assessed Wilder's future and his fight against Zhilei
Another boxing event took place in Saudi Arabia. The tournament featured a 5-on-5 format: Eddie Hearn vs. Frank Warren.
The main event of the boxing evening was a heavyweight (over 90.7 kg) bout between American Deontay Wilder and Zhang Zhilei from China. The outcome was decided in the fifth three-minute round. Initially, the American landed a precise, unprepared blow, but in doing so, he offered Zhang the opportunity to strike back.
The Chinese fighter seized this chance and delivered a second blow after the initial strike. Wilder fell in the ring, and although he managed to rise, the referee stopped the match and awarded Zhilei an early victory.
Another heavyweight, Anthony Jousha, commented on this fight and Deontay Wilder's future for Metro. According to the Briton, everything depends on the Bronze Bomber himself. Additionally, he expressed no surprise at the fight's outcome.
"Am I surprised that Wilder was knocked out? No. Everyone forgets he fought against a strong boxer. Zhang is a strong guy; he's an Olympic medalist. I fought him at the Olympics, and he's still performing at a high level. Wilder faced a really good professional.
Should Deontay retire? It all depends on him. He can try another fight, and if it doesn't work out, he'll surely find something else to do besides boxing," Joshua stated.
Furthermore, promoter Eddie Hearn shared his thoughts on the defeat of former heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder (43-4-1, 42 KO) against Zhang Zhilei (27-2-1, 22 KO).
