Yesterday, Barcelona officially kicked off the new season. In their first La Liga match, they traveled to Valencia and secured a hard-fought victory, thanks to a brace from Robert Lewandowski. While the Polish striker scored his second goal from the penalty spot, his first was a well-taken effort from open play, assisted by Lamine Yamal.
Undoubtedly, taking the field was a challenging task for the young Catalan star, especially following the recent attack on his father. However, Yamal managed to focus on the game and delivered an outstanding performance.
After the match, Barcelona’s head coach, Hansi Flick, praised the young talent, noting that even opposing fans appreciate his skills.
"He's a fantastic player. He's important to us, and everyone wants to see him play. That's why he received applause from everyone here," Marca quotes him.
"It's crucial to start with a win. We were better in the second half, as we made mistakes in the first. The goal just before halftime was very important."
Barcelona’s next match will be a home game against Athletic Bilbao on August 24.
