Even 3-0 is not enough! Kaizer Chiefs boss identifies major problem despite cup triumph
Kaizer Chiefs have returned to winning ways in spectacular fashion, but Fernando Da Cruz is refusing to get carried away. Despite the impressive 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy, the head coach believes his team still has a significant weakness that needs attention.
Details: Speaking after Tuesday's Carling Knockout encounter, Da Cruz expressed confidence in the tactical system he has implemented at Kaizer Chiefs. However, the French coach made an important distinction between his team's overall approach and its effectiveness in decisive situations. "We're having confidence in our model game but not in the efficiency," he explained in comments reported by Soccer Laduma on October 27.
Chiefs defeated TS Galaxy 3-0 to progress to the Carling Knockout quarterfinals. Wandile Duba delivered a remarkable individual performance, scoring in the 48th, 62nd and 66th minutes. His second-half hat-trick settled the contest and earned him the Man of the Match award.
Da Cruz's concerns about efficiency are not new. Earlier in October, he highlighted the team's difficulties converting chances into goals, even when its general performances were encouraging. The emphatic cup victory represents progress, but the coach clearly wants greater consistency rather than relying on exceptional individual displays.
It's worth noting that this victory came just four days after Chiefs were eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup by Red Arrows on penalties. The result has given the team an immediate confidence boost, although Da Cruz's comments suggest that further improvement remains his priority as the club continues its domestic campaign.
Reminder: One man destroyed them! Kaizer Chiefs star scores stunning hat-trick in cup demolition.
