On Tuesday, January 21, the first matches of UEFA Champions League Matchday 7 took place. As always, our team has chosen the standout performer of the day.

In the clash between Benfica and Barcelona, "Eagles" striker Evangelos Pavlidis delivered a sensational performance with a hat-trick against the Catalans. He opened the scoring in the second minute, capitalized on a mistake by Wojciech Szczęsny, and converted a penalty in the 30th minute. Midway through the second half, he had a chance for a fourth, but Barcelona’s defender beat him to the ball, resulting in an own goal.

Pavlidis also registered one of the fastest hat-tricks in UEFA Champions League history. Only Robert Lewandowski (23 minutes against RB Salzburg in 2022) and Marco Simone (against Rosenborg in 1996) have achieved quicker hat-tricks.

Though Benfica lost to Barcelona in a thrilling 4-5 encounter, the Dailysports team believes Evangelos Pavlidis was the standout player of the day.

Reminder: The Dailysports team has prepared a full schedule of all Matchday 7 UEFA Champions League fixtures for you.
