European national teams are dominating the 2026 World Cup playoffs after the conclusion of the Round of 16.

Details: Six out of seven European teams have reached the 2026 World Cup quarterfinals: France, Spain, Belgium, Norway, England, and Switzerland.

The only UEFA representative that failed to progress was Portugal, who were knocked out after a defeat by Spain.

Besides the Europeans, just two teams from other continents are still in the hunt for the trophy. Morocco advances from Africa, and Argentina from South America.

As for CONCACAF, their playoff journey has ended entirely. The United States, Canada, and Mexico all bowed out in the Round of 16.

As a result, the 2026 World Cup quarterfinals have a strong European flavor: six of the eight remaining teams are from UEFA.
