Europa League. Liverpool sensationally lost in Belgium, while Roma secured a comfortable victory
On Thursday, December 14, the final matchday of the Europa League group stage took place. Liverpool traveled to face Royal Union, while Roma hosted Sheriff.
Royal Union 2-1 Liverpool
In the first half, the hosts dominated the football field, although they had less possession. In the 32nd minute, Union opened the scoring with a goal from Mohamed Amur. Liverpool quickly responded, and in the 40th minute, the 20-year-old Quansah scored a goal. Three minutes later, Cameron Puertas once again put Royal Union ahead.
After the break, the hosts scored a third goal, but the referees disallowed it due to a handball by the attacker. Union held on and maintained a minimal advantage.
Despite the 1-2 defeat, Liverpool still secured the top spot in Group E with 12 points. Toulouse is in second place with 11 points, and Union is in third place with eight points.
Roma 3-0 Sheriff
Roma opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Romelu Lukaku scored a goal assisted by Zalewski. In the 32nd minute, Belotti doubled Roma's lead with another assist from Zalewski. In injury time, 19-year-old Niccolo Pizzi scored the third goal, sealing the victory for Roma.
With a comfortable 3-0 win, Roma secured the second spot in Group G with 13 points. The group leader is Slavia Prague with 15 points after six matches.
