Euromatch NPFL: Sporting Lagos Coach Jeffrey Buter Fined N500,000 Over Referee Comments
Sporting Lagos head coach Jeffrey Buter has been fined N500,000 by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) over his comments on refereeing after the Lagos derby against Ikorodu City.
The decision followed an inquest held on Wednesday into his post-match interview after the 0-0 draw on September 30. Buter admitted at the hearing that he was wrong to have made the remarks.
The panel said it considered his admission and his limited experience in the NPFL as a coach before settling on the fine. He now has seven working days to pay or face further sanctions.
Buter had criticised the officiating after the derby and questioned the handling of refereeing in the league, which led to his invitation before the NPFL disciplinary panel.
The NPFL has also warned coaches and club officials to avoid public statements that could bring the NPFL or its referees into disrepute, urging them to channel any complaints about officiating through the proper means.
