EuroLeague CEO Rules Out CSKA Moscow's Return Next Season
The statement by the Executive Director of the EuroLeague Coaches Board, Goran Sasic, suggesting that Russia's CSKA Moscow might return to Europe's premier basketball competition as early as next season, did not elicit positive emotions within the EuroLeague itself.
Details: EuroLeague CEO Paulius Motiejunas stated that Sasic's statement was his personal opinion, and discussing CSKA's return in the foreseeable future is premature.
Quote: “We view this as the statement of one individual. Each of us has our own opinion, but it has nothing to do with the EuroLeague's position. Unless the situation completely changes, as long as it remains this way, there's no point in even discussing a return. There are sanctions and war. What kind of return are we talking about?” stated Motiejunas.
Reminder: CSKA was suspended from participating in the EuroLeague following the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine in February 2022.
