Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury that has ruled her out for at least six weeks, putting her potential participation in WAFCON 2026 in doubt.

Her club, AFC Toronto, confirmed that Okoronkwo sustained a meniscus injury during their recent match against Halifax. The setback occurred in-game and has since been assessed, with medical reports indicating a recovery period of around six weeks.

The timing is particularly unfortunate, with the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to run from July 25 to August 16, 2026. Depending on her rehabilitation progress, the Nigerian forward could be racing against time to regain full fitness before the tournament begins.
