Ernest Nuamah Appiah scored his first brace for Olympique Lyonnais in a pivotal Europa League match against FC Steaua București, putting on an incredible display. The teenage Ghanaian forward was Lyon's best player as they easily won 4-0 to guarantee a trip to the quarterfinals.
Nuamah’s Impact on the Match
Lyon put up a strong first impression on their Romanian opponents, controlling the ball and pushing high. Following an early score from a teammate, Nuamah extended the lead in the 37th minute by slotting the ball past the goalkeeper with lightning-fast speed and flawless finishing.
Lyon had complete control as the game came to a close, but Nuamah wasn't done yet. He scored his second goal, capping a decisive victory, in the 88th minute after completing a brilliant team move.
Recognition on the European Stage
Nuamah’s heroics earned him a place in WhoScored’s Europa League Team of the Week with an impressive 9.66 rating. He joined Lyon teammate Georges Mikautadze and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams as the standout stars of the round.
Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, following his hat-trick against Real Sociedad, also made the Team of the Week, alongside Diogo Dalot. The defensive pairing of Mert Muldur and Milan Skriniar, along with midfielders Sebastian Szymański and Yuri Berchiche, completed the squad.
