Eric Chelle Calls Up Christian Akpan as Nigeria Adjusts Squad Ahead of Poland and Portugal Friendlies

Belgium-based defender Christian Akpan has reportedly received a late call-up to the senior national setup ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal.

Head coach Eric Chelle is understood to be dealing with several squad absentees, with some invited players unavailable due to visa complications and other logistical issues.

According to OwngoalNigeria, Chelle has moved quickly to draft in replacements as preparations intensify ahead of the first fixture against Poland, which is just days away.

Akpan, 21, who can operate as a right or left full-back, recently made his senior debut for Genk in the Belgian Pro League and is now in line for a possible first appearance for the senior side if handed minutes during the upcoming games.
