The Eredivisie Round 33 clash between Breda and Heerenveen was suspended in the 83rd minute. Once the decision to stop the match was finalized, it became clear that Breda would finish the season in the relegation zone and compete in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie—the country's second-tier league—next season.
At the moment of interruption, the Breda side was leading 2-0, but even this result couldn't save the club from relegation out of the Dutch top flight. Home supporters repeatedly threw burning flares onto the pitch in protest, prompting the referee to call off the match.
This was a heavy blow for the club after an extremely tough season, during which the team never managed to stabilize their performance or secure their place among Dutch football’s elite.
